In order to prevent the onset and spread of COVID-19, it is necessary to prove a negative PCR test result not older than 3 days (72 hours) on the day of the qualification exam.

Entry into the premises of the Secondary Medical School in Trnava is allowed only with the use of personal protective means to cover the nose and mouth (protective mask). Following the entrance, it is necessary to pass the entrance anti-epidemiological filter (hand disinfection and body temperature measurement) at the school reception.

Procedure for registering for the qualification exam:

You must apply for the qualification exam in writing or by e-mail, and then you will receive a notification, which you must submit no later than on the day of the exam.

– the applicant applies for the qualification exam by a written request at least 30 days before the date of the examination

The application for the qualification exam must contain:

1. Name and surname of the applicant,

2. The address of permanent residence or similar residence,

3. The name of a regulated profession listed in the Slovak Republic in which the qualification exam will be taken for the recognition of professional qualifications.

The attachments to the application are:

1. A certified copy of the diploma with translation into the state language of the Slovak Republic,

2. A certified copy of the decision of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sports of the Slovak Republic on the recognition of the diploma,

3. A certified copy of the report of the previously failed qualification exam performed – in the case of a repeat of the qualification exam performed no later than 12 months from the date of the failure of the previous qualification exam.

2. The applicant registers for the examination by a written application for the qualification exam at least 30 days before the date of the examination.

3. Payment for the qualification exam is 250 euros (medical assistant, pharmaceutical laboratory assistant), 310 (masseur), which you will pay in cash directly at the school, where you will receive a cash register receipt – as proof of payment.

4. The qualification exam consists of:

– The written part, which consists of questions on generally binding legal regulations (laws)

– The written part, which consists of questions on the professional topics

– The oral part of the professional topics (the candidate is admitted to this part of the exam only when he/she passed the written form of the exam at the level of at least 70%)

  • a notarized copy of the protocol on the unsuccessful passing of the qualification exam, if it is a question of re-passing the exam less than 12 months after the unsuccessful attempt

Slovak language courses for medical professionals

Dear medical professionals,

We present to your attention the announcement of the Slovak language courses for medical professionals at the iCan language school, which will help you in preparing for the qualification exam, as well as in your professional activities.

From February 15 to March 17 – Slovak language course for dentists. During the course, you will learn the terminology that will be useful to you both in professional practice and when passing the qualification exam for dentists. The course material is a specialized textbook for foreign dentists.

LAST call, starting January 18: Slovak language course for health workers-preparation for the qualification exam.

Dear medical professionals,

On Monday, January 18, the “Slovak Language Course for foreign medical workers” Phase 3 starts at the iCan Language School.

The course includes the most important topics in 4 main sections of medicine (Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics) that you need to know to successfully pass the test and oral part of the qualification exam for general practitioners.

Dentists can study two sections in this course: (“Internal Diseases” and “Surgery”), which are an integral part of the exam for this medical specialty. The course is also suitable for nurses who are also preparing for the qualification exam.

The course was developed with the participation of doctors from the International Association of Doctors in Slovakia (MALnS).

Classes will be held from January 18 to March 13, namely, on Monday and Wednesday from 18.00 to 19.30. Every two weeks on Saturday, the final lesson on the completed section will be held.

Spring qualification exam will be held in Kosice

In a pandemic, the situation with the qualification exam is not always clear and stable for doctors who plan to take it in the near future. Therefore, our association has made an official request to the Slovak Ministry of Education about the dates and place of the next qualification exam for foreign general practitioners and dentists. We are the first to bring you the most relevant information based on the response from the above institution.

The exam (doplňujúca skúška) will be held in the spring of 2021 at the Faculty of Medicine of the Pavel Jozef Šafarik University in Kosice. Estimated dates for the exam will be published on the website of the Ministry of Education by the end of 2020.

Course of the Slovak language “Vocabulary and Terminology for Health Professionals”

Dear healthcare professionals,

From 09.11.2020 to 29.01.2021 MALnS, in cooperation with the language school iCan, will conduct an online course of the Slovak language “Vocabulary and Terminology for Health Professionals”, which represents phase 2 of the training of health workers.

The cost of the course is 299 € (for members of the Association there is a 10% discount), monthly payment for classes is possible.

The course consists of 20 lessons, 2 academic hours each (40 hours).

Classes will be held using ZOOM twice a week from 18:00 to 19:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The course will be useful for doctors, nurses and pharmacists, as it will help to master the knowledge that relates to:

• Anatomical terminology

• Features of collection of anamnesis, communication with the patient and his relatives

• Social vocabulary used in the medical team when communicating with colleagues

Recognition of a diploma and qualifications for nurses

In Slovakia, there is the possibility of recognition of the following types of nursing diplomas: a sister with a higher education: https://www.minedu.sk/sestra/ , a sister with a secondary specialised education: https://www.minedu.sk/sestra-vyssie-odborne-vzdelanie/ and a practical nurse with a secondary education: https://www.minedu.sk/prakticka-sestra-zdravotnicky-asistent/. Most nurses with secondary education, most often from Ukraine, recognized their diploma and their qualifications as a practical nurse. Below is information for them for a specialised exam, which takes place 3 times a year (March, June, November). This year, the last term fell on November 5, 2020.

Online intensive Slovak language course (phase 1 for foreign health professionals)

Our association, in cooperation with the iCan language school, has developed an educational program for foreign health professional who are preparing for a medical exam and want to work in Slovakia.

The program consists of 4 stages or phases

Phase 1:                               General language study of the Slovak language from beginner (A1) to intermediate (B1) level – intensive Slovak language course,

Phase 2:                               Language study with an emphasis on the study of medical terminology and vocabulary for those health professionals who already speak Slovak.

Phase 3:                               Language preparatory course for health professionals speaking Slovak at the B1-B2 level, focused on preparation for the medical exam in 4 main general clinical disciplines: pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine, surgery.

Phase 4:                               Course “Legal minimum for foreign health professionals”

Successful completion of all 4 phases of the educational program will allow you to acquire the necessary knowledge of the Slovak language, including the acquisition of medical terminology, the basics of medical law. This will bring you a significant advantage in communicating with potential employers and patients, as well as increasing your chances of successfully passing a medical exam for foreign health professionals.
